MPB-Have any of you had long hair before you started losing it?
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:02:24 PM »
I was just starting this post to see if anyone here, when they had a full head of hair, had long hair before it began falling out. I used to at one time until MPB took effect.  O0

Yep, for the better part of 10 years, from ponytail-length down to about the middle of my back.  Looking back, the MPB was *a lot* more obvious than I thought for most of it!  Sly is the way to be....

Oh yeah! In my teenage years and some beyond it just couldn't get long enough for me.  But as my hair is rather curly, it never got long, but I got more of semi-Afro cut. Started cutting it more short when I got a bit older, not because of the thinning, but I just didn't like it anymore. Took too much maintenance and it never came out the way I liked it anyway.  Only years later I started to really trim it down until a few months ago when I went all the way.

Funny, at one time it couldn't get long enough and lookat me now :-).

I have naturally curly hair also and used to pay money to get mine relaxed. It wouldn't straighten some, but I'd still have curly ringlets that were past my shoulders. I used to need hair gel to comb it. I had long hair until I was about 23, then just got it cut short. My MPB wasn't that noticable then, but my wife did notice it. I started to let it grow longer again and by the age of 25, my receding hairline was quite noticable, so I got it cut short and kept it that way. In the early summer of 2006, my wife had talked me into just getting it all clipped off with the clippers. Every summer since I usually didn't have over 1/4 inch of hair. I would either have my wife's beautician clipper it off every two weeks or would occasionally shave it bald, but often razor burned. Eventually, I found razors and shaving cream that didn't cause a rash or cause bleeding. By the spring of 2010, my MPB became more and more noticeable. I decided to have my wife's beautician just clipper it all of. Since then I kept it shaven bald, but occasionally I'll have my wife's beautician trim my moustache and goatee. Also I'll get pedicures with my wife.  ;D My wife's beautician's nail tech said to me that her husband shaves his head bald too because of MPB.
